A Surreal....no So Real night...

Danny flew down to Hawaii from San Fran today, errr due to a delay flight tonight. We introduced him to our local diner, Zippys and then headed out to an interesting location. It was the bowling alley, however a bowling alley turned to a club. I have never seen anything like it but was a very interesting experience. Tanner and his friends hooked us up and we got into the VIP section with drinks and food on the house. The buzz of the night was that R&B singer Ne-Yo and a few of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew stars such as Fanny Pak and So Real Cru were supposed to be heading down.

Knowing the life of an R&B/Rapper star I wasn't holding my breath on Ne-Yo showing, since I knew if I were a superstar I would bring the party to my hotel or else just chill with room service and a nice long bath after a concert. However for the MTV mini celebs im sure they would make it out, and sure enough they did. As we drank away So Real Cru made their entrance and with our luck right next to us in the VIP section. We had a blast with great food and drinks and a good welcoming for Danny. Towards the end of the night we got a chance to talk to So Real Cru and turns out that they were very down to earth which was great. With less then a week left, I hope to enjoy my days on the island and this was another great day.

For those who have no idea who these guys are here's a little video:

Drinking my Cold Away?

Slowly recovering from my cold, I ventured out of my slumber into the real world. Had dinner with Reber, Katy and Jeff, a continuation from the dinner that was supposed to happen on the night of the blackout. Had some delicious Yakiniku (Korean BBQ)! After getting our grub on we played some pool just like the good ol days. Kathy and Reber destroyed us for a few games, something tells me that they been practicing.

After pool, Reber dropped me off to TJ's a sports bar and grill and thats where the craziness began.

The gang from the New Year's gathering were there and I arrived with the party already beginning. As the night went on we challenged each other through beer drinking contests and shots and all sorts of craziness all night long. The quote of the night was, "don't worry alcohol will help cure your cold, the shots burn the bacteria away." Hah! For anyone who believes that you are the world's most gullible person.... and that night I was that person. Thank god Justin drove me home because I was in no capacity to drive. Good times again, starting to worry though, I don't want to have all my fun in the beginning of 09' I have to save some for the later part of the year =).

Happy New Year 09

I am a trooper. While still sick I headed out to Todd's house to celebrate the departure of 2008 and to welcome to 2009. Filled with a lot of drunken fun, I laughed my way into 2009 thanks to some funny friends. Tanner wins the award for funniest drunk of the night.

and here's a compilation of Tanner at his finest:

Still sick...

Woke up this morning feeling like crap. Realized that I'm still sick and cannot seem to shake this thing. I slept most of the day and played on my computer. I really really need to get better by tommorow for New Years Eve, it should be a big one.

I beat Lvl 3 on to Level 4

Yesterday was a good day. *Ala Ice Cube.
Started off the day pounding Mochi (Rice) for the New Years at my Dad's friends house. Then headed back into town for a bit.
I met up with Matt and Erica (and Nathan, can't forget little nathan) later that night and we had some Big City Diner, ordering an array of Pupus (Kimchee fried Rice, Poki, Roasted Garlic Fries) and shared it amongst the three of us. We all went home for a bit for a break before partying up later that night.

Lance and Justin picked me up and they went to go eat at Curry House. As tempting as it was, I didn't eat a second dinner. I had a good conversation with them both and was able to be very open and express some of the frustrations that I have been having recently. This was what l needed and in the end they were receptive and that's what I really needed as well. Lance put the whole situation in a light for me to understand and I definately felt better about it. Sometimes theres no need for a solution just for a confirmation from another that they understand you. That's what friends are for and for that I'm grateful.
After eating Matt picked me and Justin up and we headed for Level 4, in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center of Waikiki, HI. Over the years I have become immune to going to club with awkward locations because Hawaii clubs always seem to top each other as the years go by and boy let me tell you... what I was about to see in that club topped the list tonight.

After a long 1.5ish hour wait in line we finally got in! Corey met up with us and the night began with Justin buying us a round of double shots! Got the night started real good. I was having that feeling that I didn't know anyone again, a feeling that I've been having as the years progressed due to getting older. BUT, as the goose started kicking in, so did the night. Turns out Corey's friend is someone I knew for awhile: Jodi! long time friend of Corey for years. Then as I was walking through the club another familiar face waved to me and gave me the peace sign. My childhood friend Iris! I guess my senses become less sensative to my surroundings with some alcohol.

We ventured deeper into Level 4 and found a huge dance room with a stage on one side and theatre seats on the other. On the stage was a performance of some sort where I can probably best explain it as Hawaii's Cirque du Soleil. It was unbelievable. Hawaii took their club status to a whole new level with a definate Vegas feel. With the amount of hot people in Hawaii, I'd say that night they may have topped Vegas even. All in all, it was an awesome night. It was a night that made me appreciate my friends and for that I am thankful. This night alone is one of those nights that you sometimes think about like "what would I do if I was in Hawaii right now for one day only." Well, I'd like to repeat this one.

Here's a short vid of inside Level 4. Please don't mind drunk me cursing and yelling some nonsense toward the end of the video. NSFW!

Lights Out

So me and a few friends that I haven't seen in forever (7 years), got together for dinner last night. As we were ordering our food, the lights started to flicker and then... lights out, pitch black. 10 minutes in darkness, the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate. We finished our beers and left Ryan's Bar and Grill. Outside we heard the cooks say it was island wide, so we decided to look for ourselves and went to the roof of the parking garage. In sight was the entire Honolulu span, with nothing but darkness in Waikiki, Nuuanu and pretty much the whole island except for Kapolei (about an hour away from Honolulu). So next step in an emergency I suggested we listen to the AM radio for news on what's going on. Sure enough, it was indeed an island wide blackout and estimated for an overall time of 12 hours til we get power back again. After hearing the news we cut our gathering short, and I got home to climb up a flight of 20 stories of stairs. With nothing to do, I made this short video of blacked-out Honolulu and then went to sleep. The power did come back at about 5am for us in Honolulu, but for my friends on the other side of the island haven't got their power back yet and it's currently 10:30am. That was the little excitement I had for the end of 2008, gave me a little "end of the world in Hawaii" like feeling for a bit especially with Obama staying in the islands. Haha oh man the little things that get me excited! Anyways heres the vid, of course you can't see much becuase it was total blackness except for the backup generated lights:

Flashing Christmas Lights

= Before you read on, I apologize for bringing down anyone's emotions during the holiday season. If you are affected by words and emotions easily please don't read further. It's just an expression of what I am honestly thinking right now =
You know that feeling of expectation on how you should feel during a certain holiday season? Well throw it away, expect the unexpected. I was feeling kind of glum on Christmas and instead of feeling all scroogy, I decided to go take a walk with my Camera to take some pics of the Honolulu Christmas lights in downtown. Let alone I started to realize how HORRIBLE my little sony cam is but it tried it's best.

And here's a song to show my feelings:

"Shoots" not "Chutes"!

It's Shoots not Chutes as in the board game chutes and ladders! Shoots is the term used in Hawaii for "Ok" or "gotcha". IE: Shoots i'll see ya there!

Anyways thats my little hawaii-lingo of the day and as you can see I have made it back to my home town this Christmas break. Went out and had a wonderful homecoming welcoming as usual. The guys took me out for some drinks, and pupus (appetizers). Big ups to the guys who came out last night.

Now the good stuff... Just for my blog fans I'll hit you up with something that happened on my flight home. So the flight from NY was delayed due to the snow and the plane having to be de-iced. Nonetheless, I was sitting next to this girl who I didn't get much of a glimpse because apparently sleep was more important than anything in the world at the moment. So throughout our 8 hour venture in the plane, I got a few glimpses of her face and by the way she dressed I was under the impression that this girl was actually a MILF. But, boy was I wrong. As the plane was landing, she started talking to the woman to the left of her about that ladies connecting flight and how they both would be late. She then mentions that she's going to Maui and hopes she gets on because her little dog (who was in a little carry-on under the seat in front of her) only had permits to travel for today only. Now through the mentioning of "Maui" that caused my ears to perk up a bit and do a little eves dropping. As the conversation got deeper, I noticed that this so called MILF actually talked like she was much younger then I sought her out to be, hell she even sounded younger then me, especially since she kept mentioning her parents and what she wants to do in life.

So I couldn't take it anymore and turned my head and got a full look to see what she looks like. Results? Not bad, and definately not a MILF but an attractive young lady probably younger then me thats just dressed in older ladies clothes and jewelery. Me being the shy person let them carry on their conversation, but I did get a chance to slip in my appearance. I asked her if she's flying to Maui, and told her that I'm flying to Oahu. With those few words we opened up a short conversation while the plane just touched down to the landing strip. Turns out that she's Japanese and living in NY just like me! She's a admirer of languages (as am I) and the similarities actually had the conversation go so smoothly. After about a minute of conversation, the fasten seat belt signs flashed off indicating time for us to deplane. I let her know about my flight leaving within an hour and that if possible she should try to catch the same flight as me and then find a connecting flight in Oahu instead of straight from LAX. She seemed to like the idea and said she'll give it a shot if she can't find something better. We both left the plane, while I wished her good luck, and she said her byes with "hopefully we'll be on the same connecting flight next." Anticipating her company on the next flight I decided to get some pizza for lunch. As I was in line I saw her running to another gate, which indicated that she found a better connecting flight. And.. that was the end of that!

So with this story, it makes me wonder.... Do you ever get the feeling that some people are put in your life for you to meet, and its up to you to make the best of that opportunity. Sure, I should have got her number, sure I shouldn't prioritize sleep over everything! , but OH well no sense kicking myself any longer..... im in Hawaii now, its' time to party!!
